Literacy Strategies for a Digital World

Session Description


As more classrooms go digital, how can we support  students to better read, engage with, and comprehend digital content? Learn about our favorite digital tools to incorporate literacy strategies into ALL content areas. From useful extensions and add-ons, to interacting with text, we'll share go-to resources.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the sessions participants will know / be able to: 

  1. Integrate digital tools and strategies to support my students with reading comprehension.
  2. Utilize digital tools and add ons to differentiate reading for all students  
  3. Use digital tools and strategies to support student writing

Activity 1:

Interacting with the Text: participants will explore various add-ons and online tools to assist students with annotating directly on their text. We will explore programs like Apple Preview, Google Docs Commenting, Annotate.co, etc. Participants will complete a A-E-I-O-U  after this activity to reflect. 

Activity 2:

Digital Note taking tools: participants will explore various add-ons and online tools to assist students with digital note taking strategies. We will explore programs like Playposit, edPuzzle, MoocNote, VideoAnt, and VideoNotes.es, etc. Participants will complete a  3-2-1 after this activity to reflect. 

Activity 3: 

Reading Comprehension Strategies: participants will explore various add-ons and online tools to assist students with eliminating the “Digital Distraction.”  We will explore programs like Clean Print, Just Read, Quiet Tube, Safe Share, and Hey Focus, etc. Participants will complete a  Six Word Story after this activity to reflect. 

Closure: 

Participants will complete a Swap Meet to conclude the session and share their findings and excitements with the group.
