Session Description

There are PLENTY of digital resources available in MGSD.  But where do you start when you’re trying to facilitate research in the classroom?  This session will provide you with a starting point to get your students engaged with the right resources for the right content

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the sessions participants will know / be able to: 
  1.  Incorporate content specific research into my lessons.
  2. Create instructions for my students to reference when researching.
  3. Choose appropriate digital resources for research in my classroom.

Activity 1: Brainstorming

We will be using Padlet to brainstorm resources that we currently use in our classrooms.  Are these resources teacher directed or student choice? Do you require books vs. online resources? How do you police copyright/citations?

Activity 2: MGSD Resource Exploration

 We will explore the various resources on your school’s library catalog. Open the Destiny home page and select your school. If not automatically directed to the Destiny Discover Search screen, select Destiny Discover on the left hand side of page. Login using your laptop username and password. Type in a keyword of your choice to view the resources for that search term. Explore the filters on the left side.

Activity 3: Destiny Exploration

We will explore the various resources on your school’s library catalog. Open the Destiny home page and select your school. Login using your laptop username and password. If not automatically directed to the Universal Search, click on the Catalog tab, then Universal Search on the left hand side of page. Type in a keyword of your choice to view the resources for that search term. Explore the filters on the left side.
